For two weeks in September, we gave four guys each a Chevy vehicle to take on a road trip just for guys. Scott Allen, Fred Goodall, Nan Palmero and Mike Merrill all roadtripped through Texas with their sons, brothers and friends, and these are their stories.

The pictures are in, the videos are uploaded and the blog posts are up! Our Chevy Mancationers have returned safely enough to document their trips, but now they need your help. One of our lucky Mancationers will receive a special Victory Mancation after receiving the most votes in our special Chevy Mancations Poll.
So, read the posts about each Mancation below:

Then, vote in our poll! Remember: the Mancationer with the most votes is declared the Chevy Mancations winner and will receive a Victory Mancation to celebrate, courtesy of Chevrolet. Nan and Bobby not only did something cool, they did some social good with helping out on the fires that were ravaging Central Texas.

  • Lenie Ford September 29th, 2011 5:43 pm

its why I voted for them

  • Ann Marie Palmero September 29th, 2011 6:10 pm

The Chevy truck was a great companion; for better and for worse.

  • Erik Darmstetter September 29th, 2011 6:41 pm

What an adventure! Great job Nan and Bobby!

It's so awesome to see a couple of class act guys doing such a selfless act, even while on their mancaction!

  • @geekettebits September 29th, 2011 8:23 pm

Go Nan and Bobby!! It's time bromance went on mancation! :D

  • C. Paul Hurtado September 29th, 2011 9:37 pm

It's a Mancation, and not a service project!

  • Blanca Harris September 29th, 2011 11:55 pm

Scott, I am happy for you to be able to go out with your son. Great to have an undivided attention for both. He will remember that for ever… The music was also very appropriate for a cool red convertible experience! http://nfn8.com/mancation Everyone should vote for yours!!!

  • Joanne Martin Wilson September 30th, 2011 1:36 am

Fun and caring! Nan and Bobby demonstrated Texas' best! Makes me want to go on a "womancation"!

  • -A. Adams September 30th, 2011 7:29 am

Nice work boys. A Chevy truck in the Texas "Outback" with Waylon Jennings on the radio…..thats all I needed!

  • Nan Palmero September 30th, 2011 11:23 am

Paul, check out this video and see how it suits you – http://vimeo.com/nanpalmero/mancation

  • Scott Allen September 30th, 2011 11:46 am

Yeah – I have to give them much props for helping out like that.

Of course, now I feel like I'm in a popularity contest vs. Mother Theresa. :-)

  • Scott Allen September 30th, 2011 12:22 pm

I want to know the story behind the rattlesnake. I can't figure out how that thing would have climbed up there on its own, and I can't figure out which of you would have been dumb enough to pick it up and put it up there by hand! :-) Did it drop out of a tree or something?

  • Ann Marie Palmero September 30th, 2011 1:19 pm

If the Chevy outlived the Texan rattlesnake and those two heartfelt men, it too will vote best for Nan and Bobby!
    Go Chevy!!!!!

  • Michael B. September 30th, 2011 2:57 pm

Real men help those in need.

  • Nick September 30th, 2011 8:52 pm

    Scott Rules!!! Woo Goo!!!

  • J. Burkett October 1st, 2011 11:22 am

Am I the only one who think it was a cheap trick to go volunteer on your mancation to win votes over? A good person volunteers and dosent brag about it. A bad person volunteers and brags about it. I dont know what a person is who volunteers, brags about it in a video, and tries to use that to win a contest. I am all for volunteering. But doing it to win a contest….. That seems shallow to me and also seems like cheating.

  • Michelle October 1st, 2011 7:46 pm

I guess it's obvious you don't know Nan then. He's one of the kindest, most honorable people I have ever had the pleasure to cross paths with. If anything (as you can tell by some of the previous comments) what he and Bobby did with their Mancation has inspired and encouraged others to volunteer as well. This was a great way to bring some publicity to a volunteer organization that might not otherwise have had the chance. I mean none of this disrespectfully, the other entries were awesome as well, and I wish everyone the best of luck. (I've been craving BBQ since the videos were posted lol)

  • Cynthia McKenna October 1st, 2011 8:05 pm

Nan & Bobby had man cation fun and helped with disaster relief – A++ in my book

  • clappy October 2nd, 2011 12:01 pm

agreed! Scott well done! u showed going out with your family! Not used volunteering to gain votes! Im betting they dont volunteer on a regular basis!

  • Scott Allen October 2nd, 2011 2:29 pm

It wasn't a cheap trick…not a trick at all. I think it's great they volunteered. And if there were thousands of strangers viewing all three videos, I might feel more like it was at least hard to compete against, if not a deliberate ploy. But the fact of the matter is, this contest is going to be largely determined by how many each of us can bring in to vote, not "the general public".

    So don't be hatin'.

Same goes for whatever jerks are thumbing down the positive comments in support of me. How can you thumbs down someone saying they're happy I was able to go out with my son and us have some time together?

We're keeping this competition friendly among us — I sure wish everyone else would.

  • Ann Marie Palmero October 2nd, 2011 4:26 pm

Yup! "Sticks and stones can hurt the bones," but, words don't make any of it true. Someone's insecurity might try though.

  • Nan Palmero October 2nd, 2011 9:43 pm

Scott, thank you for the kind words. You're right, this is friendly between all three of us and we hope that all of our friends/fans/followers will be friendly to all the competitors from here on out.

  • HeidiG October 3rd, 2011 9:32 am

Could not agree with Michelle more. Nan is the most genuine person you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting in your life. Guaranteed.

  • G. Scott October 3rd, 2011 10:46 am

I am amazed after reading the comments at how even an advertising/promotional experience can bring up such a diversity of attitudes and opinions. Yes, I happen to know one of the "contestants" well, but I did watch the other videos and thought, "What a nice group of people." When did we become so ascerbic in comments? Is this the level to which being semi-anonymous on the internet has brought us down?

  • Scott Allen October 3rd, 2011 12:35 pm

Which is why I'm not a big fan of anonymity. :-)

Gotta be willing to stand by your words and actions publicly. If you're not, then don't say it / do it.

  • @kfow35 October 3rd, 2011 12:43 pm

There is something fishy going on here. Scott Allen is consistently getting like 10 votes every 30 seconds. Non-stop. Now I know he may be a popular guy but for a poll with this little overall voting it is strange

  • Culs De Sac October 3rd, 2011 1:37 pm

@ KFOW.. You mean to tell me that Nan jumping 1000 votes in less than an hour is not fishy?

  • Nick October 3rd, 2011 1:37 pm

Nan just got a 1000 votes in less than an hour. Can anybody say script?

  • Scott Allen October 3rd, 2011 2:03 pm

I'm being very active online today. I'm actively soliciting votes. I have friends of friends. It hits a cluster, several people take action. How is that unusual?

  • Ann Marie Palmero October 3rd, 2011 2:56 pm

Finally, your friends, family, and followers got down to business and started voting. What happened to the rest? This is just a start!

  • Culs De Sac October 3rd, 2011 7:42 pm

Just tell me how you get 20 votes in 1 sec.. that would be very helpful

  • Jordan ALlen October 3rd, 2011 7:49 pm

Why in the world are you refreshing the votes every 30 seconds? You're not even in the competition, someone needs to get a life. Also, considering that at that time it was during the work day, and he was constantly posting things during the work day that may cause people to take a few seconds to stop and look and help a friend out. and spreading the word. 1,000 votes in an hour is what sounds like cheating, and I won't put that on Nan. Fanatics are fanatics. If Nan simply asks friends to do whatever they can to help, and some friend decides to run a script, you can't put that on him.
All the contestants at least seem to be good people. I don't understand why anyone would fight and argue for somebody else when they have no desire to take it to that level. It's like dealing with children.

  • jim October 3rd, 2011 7:55 pm

what I want to know is how does nat jump 40-100 votes in the matter of seconds? that's not even possible!

  • @alanweinkrantz October 3rd, 2011 9:05 pm

Nan and Bobby had the best story and the best production values. Great job guys! Vote.

  • C. Paul Hurtado October 4th, 2011 1:22 am

    Awesome video, Nan! Really!

  • C. Paul Hurtado October 4th, 2011 1:33 am

    And go on mancations!

  • Matthew October 4th, 2011 11:42 am

His name is Nan I believe Jit. :)

  • Matthew October 4th, 2011 11:55 am

Anyone curious where Mike Merrill is during this epic online squabble? I will definitely use that BBQ knowledge very soon on my own travels.

Overall, this is a very cool thing Chevy has promoted here, and I hope everyone had a great time. I have to say the pictures that Nan and Bobby posted were stunning, and I hope Chevy has the insight to use them in future promotions. It really makes the truck look tremendously bad ass. Snakes, guns, water, woods, and light painting make the truck really pop! Good luck guys.

  • gmheartland October 4th, 2011 12:24 pm

Thanks, Matthew! We've had a GREAT time working with all of these guys. It's been an honor to share our vehicles with such cool, creative people. Thanks, too, for stopping by!

  • Ann Marie Palmero October 4th, 2011 1:45 pm

Anyone else in the mood for cheese? So weird but I want it so bad! Maybe a nice ricotta with some honey on focaccia.

  • Matthew October 4th, 2011 1:48 pm

Looks like more than eight thousand people also found this interesting enough to stop by and vote. Very, very cool GM.

  • Scott Allen October 4th, 2011 2:17 pm

Fried cheese! We're gonna HAVE to get together after all this and have a cheese party! I started today with a breakfast quesadilla and then had a New York Steamer from Firehouse for lunch. I'm 2 for 2 on cheese today. Probably gonna make it a hat trick at dinner.

  • Kluever October 4th, 2011 2:48 pm

Im sorry to say but I don't think it was 8k people… Yesterday a group of us were voting for Scott Allen, but whenever we got within about 10 votes of Nan.. his tally would magically jump about 100 votes within seconds.. this occurred at least 3 times yesterday.. So I'm almost positive that those votes were casted by some automated system. I don't think Nan himself is behind it.. however, I do feel that the votes need to be tallied differently. Perhaps 1 vote per IP address. I think that would give a more realistic tally of what the outcome SHOULD be.

  • Matthew October 4th, 2011 3:15 pm

Well let's see. Nan has 1,300+ friends on FB, and 6,700+ on Twitter. There are probably some additional subscribers to his blog, but for the sake of conservative estimates let's assume there are only 6700 unique people tied to Nan. Given that the modern average user spends roughly 10-15% of their daily schedule committed to social networking, lets say that 670 users could conservatively view Nan's announcement of the contest at any given moment. This of course assumes an incorrect uniform distribution of content awareness. There will be times that more than this number, or less, view the link over several seconds. Additionally, we can assume that the number of people voting will likely conform to a Poisson distribution following posting of the link, and over repeated posts as viewers unaware of the contest diminish, yielding an easy 20 votes in the few seconds between your page refreshes this early in the contest. Scott Allen, if his subscribers are as fanatical as Nan Palmero's, could easily outpace that estimate with 34,000+ unique Twitter followers. Even his Twitter status contains the link. So really the rate of the votes isn't that ridiculous given these titans of social media. It's partially why they were chosen in the first place, I imagine.

That being said, all of these guys were given great opportunities by GM and Chevy, and used them in their own cool ways. For free guys. Think about that for a moment. So really everyone already won, right? Let's leave the bickering aside and instead encourage the great automotive manufacturers of America to support more consumer involvement like this in the future, rather than souring the experience for everyone. These are great vehicles, and we'd all be lucky to borrow them for a weekend.

  • @mikedmerrill October 4th, 2011 5:43 pm

Thanks Chevrolet for allowing my to participate. The opportunity to experience these small towns and great food makes me appreciate being a Texan.
