Big Tex was and is the personification of Texas. A beautiful giant that welcomed everyone to more enjoyment that they could imagine. He made everyone comfortable, including Chevrolet. Yet, even with his tragedy, he wouldn’t be THE true Texan without a triumphant return.

Remembering Big Tex…

“I only met Big Tex a short time ago, at my first Texas State Fair ever. He was kind enough to welcome me, with open arms, to Dallas when I moved from the Northeast to the Mid West. During the State Fair, he saw me across the grounds eating alone, and invited me to join him while I enjoyed my first Fletcher’s Corny Dog ever. Though we didn’t know each other long, he will be missed…” - Lauren Indiveri

“Big Tex will forever be a childhood memory for me.  Taking my kids to the fair this year felt like a full-circle coming of age where I was able to introduce them to the tastes of the fair and the adventure of flying high in the fair rides.  We missed Tex’s welcoming wave this year, but look forward to his triumphant return next year!” - Stephen Hunton

“Big Tex is the tallest of Texans in this great state and has been a symbol of fair fun and food for me for many years.  In fact, he was my inspiration for my Halloween costume a few years ago when I went as a corndog and my boyfriend dressed as Big Tex. I’ll always remember the great memories we shared at the fair.” - Ashley Maddocks

“I had never been to the Texas State Fair. I assumed it’d be big. It had to be. It’s Texas, and Big Tex was no exception. In fact, he was more than that. Looking past the beaming giant in front of me, I could see the smiles he produced on all the Texans around me. He was like those claymation Christmas movies. Is it the most up-to-date sexy technology? No, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. Big Tex meant the world to the fair, and when you’re in the best state in the world, I guess that makes him even bigger.” – Alex Cadice

“Big Tex was my childhood best friend. Each year we met at Fair Park to enjoy food, fun, but most of all friendship. While I’ve grown to adult age over the years, I never got too old to meet my old pal Tex. I’m so thankful to have seen him the day before his passing. That big guy gave me friendship and memories that I will forever cherish.” - Katelyn Stanglin
