Our region was badly hurt during the recent storms (tornadoes, high winds, hail, etc), but we’re not out of the woods yet. As this year’s brutal tornado season comes to a end, another severe weather season is ramping up. The month of June brings with it lots of sun and heat, and also hurricane season.
This year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts above-average activity in the North Atlantic, with up to 10 of the 12 to 18 storms becoming hurricanes.
Texas is home to 367 miles of Gulf coast, so we at General Motors want to help ensure your safety, the safety of our friends and family. That’s why OnStar and the American Red Cross have joined forces to create the Hurricane Preparation Checklist.
Specially trained OnStar Crisis Assist advisors are on-call 24 hours a day to serve as your central point of contact. In case of a hurricane or natural disaster, they can also provide the following:
- The exact location of your vehicle by using GPS technology
- Up-to-date evacuation routes
- Locations of shelters
- Updated weather conditions to help you evaluate your plans
- Connections to friends and loved ones if cell phones and landlines are not working properly
Find more information on preparation for hurricanes at www.redcross.org, and have a great, safe summer!
